Address Book locking up when I try to do a "find"

Greetings,

Well, now that Leopard is here, I figured I'd better upgrade to Tiger, so I'd still be only one OS behind. I'm having a problem with the Find feature in Address Book. As soon as I start typing letters into the field, Address book starts searching too fast. What appears to be happening is this:

*I want to search for "personal".

*I get no further than typing "p", and Address Book starts searching through every single address for any occurrence of the letter "p". The pinwheel starts spinning.

*I type "e" and now we go through the same thing with occurrences of "pe"

*By the time I've typed "per", I'm getting the spinning pinwheel forever.

*I force quit, and it says (not responding) next to "Address Book"

I'm running Tiger 10.4.11 on this machine (disregard my sig), and Address Book 4.0.6. Software update does not indicate that I need a newer version of Address Book. There are 465 cards.

This is a brand new OS install on a brand new hard disk.

Any thoughts??

Thanks!
