Mail 2.1.2 crashing after update to 10.4.11

Today i updated to OS X 10.4.11 and now my Mail program is crashing when it attempts to "get mail." Any ideas on how to resolve the issue would be great.
Thanks,

I just tried to send and mail and had no problems. It only crashes when it tries to get mail from both my .Mac account and my email host server.
Any thoughts?

Try delete the accounts then re-add them. Plus in Mail go the the menu item "Window" and select 'Connect Doctor'. It will help you find out what's going on.

Plus re-index Mail by open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal and paste this command in to re-index Mail: sqlite3 ~/Library/Mail/Envelope\ Index vacuum index; .

It will take a while if you have a large email library.

Hi Satcomer,
Thanks for the help.

Well throw out Mail Preferences in /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist and see if that helps (make a backup just in case).

Thanks again Satcomer.
I did throw away com.apple.mail.plist but there was no change. People have suggested i throw away Mail.app and reinstall. How is this done without reinstalling the whole systems software, can i just install Mail.app? How would i save my folders and filed mail?
Thanks,

To re-install apps from your install disk can be done with the third party application Pacifist.

You will find your saved emails are kept in the folder /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/ .
