Disk Doubler

Old question but I'm leaving it even later than most to retrieve some old data.

I have some Quark 3.32 (I think) files that were DDd in 98-99 and I'd like to retrieve them.

As these are essentially text files I'm not in the slightest bothered about how they appear but if I can get the words back it would be marvellous.

I've seen people suggesting DDexpand.sea but that doesn't seem to help.

I have OSX and not Classic or OS9 or anything like that - have I left it too late?

The material is not sensitive so even if I could send a couple of files to someone to extract that would be wonderful

DeltaMac will become famous soon enough
Try 'The Unarchiver'
http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver.html

The preferences for TU show that it will do DD archives. I don't have any to try, but it works for a large variety of compressed formats. Be sure to open TU to check the various formats that it will work with. DiskDoubler is one of those supported, but you need to be sure that is checked in the settings.

Thanks for this.

Alas, no joy. I have another couple options to pursue so I'll see how they goes.

It'll be a shame if I can't access them as amongst these files are diary entries around the time our first child was born and the opening chapter of a book I was writing.

Serves me right for not doing proper back-ups I guess.

Have you tried StuffIt Expander? Supposedly StuffIt Expander can handle Disk Doubler archives. I can see from a little Googling that some people have not been able to expand them with StuffIt, but that might just be newer versions. I find that newer versions have trouble with older formats, even old StuffIt files. So if the latest version doesn't work, I recommend trying the oldest version of StuffIt that you can find for OS X. I think the first OS X version was 5 or 6.

Is it possible for you to install Classic on your system? If you have a PowerPC Mac running 10.4 or earlier, it supports Classic.

Or you could use Mac OS 9.0.4 or earlier (if you have the install discs) on your Mac, running them under SheepShaver http://gwenole.beauchesne.info/projects/sheepshaver/ and use Disk Doubler there.
