iChat suddenly unreliable

In the past 2 weeks iChat on my system has started having issues. It will suddenly log me off AIM or will disconnect me, but appear that I am still online.

I have tried changing the port, and that has not helped. I have switched to using adium with the same id, and that is stable, so I don't believe it's an issue with AIM server.

Any ideas on what I should try to get iChat stable again?

Have there been any changes in your network configuration, hardware or software, or have you installed or started using any new software lately?

It sounds more like a bug in iChat than anything else though, so you should probably try the universal cure of removing the preferences file. Navigate to the Preferences folder in the Library folder of your home directory and move all files that start with com.apple.iChat somewhere else.

When you restart iChat you'll be required to set up your account again. If it doesn't solve the issue you can move the preferences files back to restore other preferences.
