Hi all,

I have a small question in iTunes.

I have iTunes installed in my PC (Windows) and i have it on my Macbook Pro.

I have some WMA files of music in my PC (Windows), if i drag them to the iTunes, it will ask me that it needs to be converted to MP3 then it will be added to the iTunes library. I click "OK" and everything is fine.

On my Macbook Pro, when i drag an MP3 file to my iTunes, it automaticaly trasferes it to my iTunes library, but when i drag a WMA file, it doest accept at all.

WHY?????????

its suppose to work like the iTunes in my PC (Windows) correct?? why is it not asking me that it needs to be converted to MP3 then added to the library.

Help please.

Do these WMA files have any copy protection or are they crippled by any other means by Microsoft?

No, No protection.

The confusing thing is that i tried the same WMA files in my PC (Windows) and the iTunes simply converted it into MP3 then added to the library, but it simply does not accept it my MacPro. Strange.

That is odd.
If you have the PC iTunes library, you could export this mp3 from there to this other iTunes library though.

The iTunes WMA conversion is only available on the Windows version of iTunes.

Hmmm, then i have to convert them manually, or i have to use my PC iTunes to conver them for me then i'll copy them from my PC iTunes library to my Mac.

This sucks.

Yeah it sucks but easy to get around using Switch or EasyWMA and I believe ffmpegX can also do the .wma ~> mp3 conversion.

The reason probably has something to do with WMA being a Microsoft-owned codec, and, as such, must be "licensed" to be used by an operating system.

On the Windows side, iTunes can simply call a Windows API to manipulate (unprotected) WMA files, but on the Mac side, there is no WMA API to call, and I'd be willing to bet since Apple's pushing their AAC codec that there's really no motivation to spend money to get a license.
