Befuddled is on a distinguished road
iTunes

Recently, I tried to consolidate my library to an external firewire drive. During the copy, I tried to stop the operation. This froze iTunes (not responding) until I "forced quit." Shortly thereafter, the firewire drive was trashed. Disk Utility couldn't repair the drive. Failed on exit. TechTool Pro did a repair (volume structures), reported new problems, did a repair, reported new problems, did a repair, reported new problems, ad infinitum.

Finally, put the library on another firewire drive. iTunes periodically locked up when playing music or movies and had to be forced quit. Then about 15 GB out of 80 GB of music disappeared from the firewire drive. The finder display shows the music album directory, but with no folder icon in many cases, with the folder icon in other instances, but with empty folders. Disk Utility indicates the second firewire drive now is unrepairable with "failure on exit."

Any suggestions?
