Unable to boot

I have a first-generation Mac Mini, which currently has system 10.4 on it. After I installed the latest Apple software updates, the computer is now unable to boot. It gets stuck forever on the b/w intro screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel.

The online help suggested booting the computer either in "safe" mode or from a system disk. Unfortunately, none of those options work when I try them. The "safe" boot gets stuck in exactly the same place, and the computer is also unable to boot from a disk. (After trying unsuccessfully, it attempts to run the system installation, which is not what I want.)

I was able to run the system disk full hardware test, however, which found nothing wrong. Starting the computer in "target" mode also works fine, but neither Disk Utility nor DiskWarrior found any problems with the Mac Mini hard drive when I ran diagnostics on it from a Macbook.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you will need to archive and reinstall the OS again.
