No Destination Volume

I have a MacBook running under Tiger OSX 10.4

At first, the computer would start up but could not open up safari or anything else without showing the Beachball.

So I force shut down the computer

I decided to redownload OSX, and now it says there is no destination volume.

I performed the Apple Hardware Test so I know its not a hardware problem.

If I run disk utility, it keeps searching for a disk and does not find anything.

Please Help!

I take it your are booting from the Tiger Installation Disc and are you running Disc Utility from there?
