net gear router macbook

im am trying to connect to a netgear router with a mac book i can get online but only after i do a network diagnostic at which point it says network config has changed and lets me online i go into networksetting and lock settings but when i reset the mac it comes backup and says a problem occured when trying to connect to netgear does anyone know what i am doing wrong
