Quicktime won't run

I am using QT ver 7.5 with OS 10.3.9 and I always install software updates. All of a sudden I can't open QT videos in emails, I get the question mark inside the Q and the message says "additional software is needed...check the QT website". So I have checked, and done a reinstall, and installed add-ons and nothing works. Do I need to reload an older version of QT software to fix this? What version is best?

Does QT play any of your saved videos at all? What is/are the file extension/s of the movie/s in your emails?

I was going to also suggest you download Perian but notice that it says you need Tiger and I haven't been able to find a Panther version ....
