Leopard Public Folder

When configuring the System Preferences Sharing Preference Pane I changed the Computer name to something manageable and then tried to change the Public folder name and create a Public Folder with that name. Instead of now being named "LLS-iMac G5's Public Folder", it is now merely called "Public Folder". Can the public folder be renamed to align with the computer name when it appears on the network, (other than simply changing it's name in the finder Home folder?

For example, other computers on the network (properly configured first time) have a Home folder containing the folder "Public" but that same folder also has the computer name in the sharing preference pane such as "GLL's Public Folder" rather than just "Public".

I hope this is clear and that you can help

How did you change the Mac's name? If you just rename your Home folder you just set up yourself for a world of hurt.

The public folder doesn't get it's network name by renaming that folder, it gets it from the account name... Want a different public folder name on the network, change the account information (or create a new account). But as Satcomer pointed out, don't go around renaming folders that were created by your system (like your account's home folder or the original folders within it) as Mac OS X expects things to be where they are supposed to be (and with their original names).

Hello RacerX,

Thanks for advice but I am not clear about changing the account information. The Public Folder appears originally gain it's name from the Computer name rather than account. That was where the problem started, when I changed the computer name in the sharing dialogue box and the Public folder did not follow suit. I therefore deleted it in the sharing options and reselected the Public folder that now comes up as Public without acknowledging the computer name. Hope this clarifies and you might provide some steps to rectification

Thanks Satcomer,

I have changed the Public folder name back to Public as advised (within the home folder (the latter not ever changed)
