| MORE 3 on X ? Hi. Some of you maybe remember MORE (and especially MORE 3). http://www.faughnan.com/more/Enhancements.pdf It's a very good outlining program. It is so useful and I would like to know if some equivalent exists under Mac OS X. thank you to help me in finding a cocoa/carbon equivalent. ![]() Pierre. |

| I was going to suggest Office, but from the described enhancements, it sounds like what you want is Appleworks. Unless it's a page layout program... if that's the case, I'd say go with Adobe Pagemaker.

| thank you but ... thank you but well ... that's not exactly what MORE is First of all congratulations for being 18 After that if I just wanted a word processing program, TextEdit is a good way to do it. A better layout and text editor would have been Ragtime (now on OS X!!) but I don't care ... (I don't event talk about AppleWorks nor MS Word , two software I can't bear). The point is that MORE is a little, simple and clear utility that allows organizing ideas, notes and even research papers in a hierarchical way. Example : It does : + My Title ___+My First Idea _____- comment _____+a non collapsed comment _____- an other comment ___-Second Idea ___+ Third Idea _____- ha ha ! _____+ youhoo !! ________- yahoo ? ________- why not ? _____- little conclusion ___-big conclusion well ... this maynot help and seems ridiculus, but MORE is very useful. If you want to try it, you can download it freely at : http://www.outliners.com/more31 Try it (it works with classic under mac os x in spite of its age ... 1991 !!). thank you if anybody has some idea about this topic : finding an equivalent of MORE for Mac OS X (but something else than Word or AppleWorks which are not such equivalents). NB: something great with more is that you can type also long paragraphs and not only a little sentense as a point of your development. (very great when writing a research paper or a speach). thx Pierre PS : I exclude also outliners like OmniOutliner (and that's why I request your help). Indeed, such "outliners" are more like a "ToDo" list manager. They allow only a one line input as contain for a "tag" (or element, or call it as you want ). The fact is that MORE 3 (and that's why it is so good) allowed paragraph writing. So usefull for essays and documentations. (thank you again for helping me)Last edited by maccatalan; March 29th, 2003 at 06:52 AM. |

Sure, there are quite a few features that MORE has that OmniOutliner doesn't (for instance, presentations and document styles), but for just organizing thoughts and writing documents, it's a wonderful tool and getting better all the time. |

| Try the demo for NoteTaker 2003 (version 1.1.3 I think) and let me know what you think. It allows for paragraph entry called Multiline. Again, I am curious to see if this suits your needs. www.aquaminds.com Last edited by Durbrow; March 29th, 2003 at 07:04 PM. |

| Thank you Durbrow for NoteTaker, I tried this software and ... well ... this is not exactly what I mean There are too much limitations in the hierarchical organisation (we cannot go as deep as we want) and the interface is too much complex. However, to answer you carneyweb, what is missing to OmniOutliner (and this is the only missing feature) is the ability to create multiline items in the list. The solution is to write our little paragraph into the notes zone but then we have not a global view of what we wrote. For exemple if it is a documentation, you will have to enter into each item to view the associated text ... there's no "continuum". That's all. Elsewhat OmiOutliner is perfect. -> this could be a little wish list for OmniOutliner ![]() |

| I'm not sure what you mean. I write multiline items in the list all the time. I never use the notes zone. If you mean that you want to embed carriage returns in an item, there's a way to do that. But I view a paragraph as one long chunk of text that autowraps at the end of the line. I've included a picture of omnioutliner with multiline items. Is this what you mean? |

| Well, look at what you wrote, you will find no 'end-line' character. You cannot with OmniOutline go to the begining of the next line whenever you want. For exemple: First is an exemple. After 'is' there's 'end-line'. In your example you did : a very long sentence that cannot fit into the width of the window such that there's an auto-text wrap that sends the following to next line. That's all. When you do return, it creates a new item and doesn't go to next line of current item. (I tried Cmd+Return, Alt+Return, ... none worked). However, I noticed that OmniOutliner can open MORE files. That is a good news. ![]() |
