| DVD Player in OS X ver 10.25 i have just installed a Superdrive in my G4 power mac which previously only had a CD/RW as there is no DVD player do I have to go back and reinstall OS X ver 10.2 or is there a workround to install DVD player on its own. To go back to 10.2 would be so timeconsuming!!! Why cant Apple post a full version of the DVD player and not just an update. |

| There are licensing issues with Apple's DVD player along with royalties. Apple's DVD player is only licensed to be used on DVD drives sold by Apple in their computers. If they gave it to anyone, they'd have to pay royalties on the ones they give away, they build the royalty cost into the price of the DVD drive that they sell in your Apple purchased computer. It's not Apple's fault that the DVD copyright holders require people to pay to use the encryption algorithms to decode a DVD. Supposedly on the new Harry Potter DVD there is a dmg file with a DVD player that works for OS X. Not sure what it requires to work, but supposedly it's there. Brian
