How do I get BBEdit to open a text file instead of TextEdit?

I am now a Mac user for two days, and the end of my fuse is in sight.

I hate TextEdit. It seems like a Microsoft product sans the paperclip. BBEdit isn't exactly ideal, but It'll work. How do I get it so that BBEdit will open all of the text files?

Secondly, I suppose there isn't any way to make it so that the "end" button goes to the end of the line, make the command button jump a word at a time (instead of option), and make control + end go to the end of the line? I guess I'll have to learn these new key commands, but I don't really like it. I'm used to the Windows commands and I like those. I can see how Apple probably couldn't do everything like Microsoft (even if they wanted to), but is there a way or a program to change it?

Control-right arrow or command-right arrow will jump to the end of the line, and, vice-versa, with the left arrow keys as well.

Perhaps I wasn't clear about that last part. I was wanting to change the key commands to be like Windows's instead of learning the Mac commands. I'm getting used the Mac commnads ... I guess.

Also, which free text editor do you think is the best? I'm using BBEdit Lite, and it'll do, but I might like to try something else.


Getting used to the Mac a little more. I guess it isn't so bad.

Yeah, it is hard to do thinks like those who started years after you, but I guess Apple just has to make do. Windows did a pretty good job of copying the Apple key commands, but they also took the effort to change them enough so they weren't exactly the same. I could see how Microsoft probably couldn't do everything like Apple (even if they wanted to).

If you are having that many problems after two days, then maybe you aren't a Mac user. There is nothing wrong with that. Some people are, some people aren't.

It sure sounds like someone sold you on the fact that Macs are just like Windows PCs. If they were, then I'd own a Windows PC, not a Mac. They are different.

There is nothing special about being the same. Macs are different. If you aren't at least ready for that much (and willing to work with that understanding), then you should take it back ASAP.

I don't believe Macs are for everyone any more than I believe PCs are for everyone. They might not be for you.

Not a Mac user? I've been using Windows for the last six years, and I have kind of gotten a little used to doing things the Windows way. I can see how Macs may not be some people's thing, but after a little while, I think I'll get used to the Mac.

I know that Macs and Windows PCs aren't alike. It's just that I'm trying to make them so they are. Macs are waaaay different. It may be a good different, but any kind of different takes some getting used to.

Hey, I found a text editor that will use all the Windows key commands. It's called JEdit. I think it's pretty famous. Perhaps I was a little to hard on TextEdit, but I'll stick with JEdit just the same.
