Disk Warrior - comments?

Hi All,

I recently installed Norton on my new powerbook and realised quickly how useless it is....in fact JUNK comes to mind. I've heard that Disk Warrior is excellent. Anyone out there using it that could comment on it for me? Is it really good?

DW is good, Norton is bad
Simple, just my opinion as a service tech.

Norton SystemWorks is quite complicated to remove from your system. If you are running Panther 10.3, you WILL be removing it. I can't recommend installing that for any reason. It probably won't hurt to keep the boot CD, but don't install it. Just use for attempted repairs, then go to your DiskWarrior to complete the repair. It's that much better.

Hi...yeah, I learned the hard way about removal. The uninstaller just wouldn't work so I had to go through what seemed like a stack of folders to remove the barnacles from everything. Think I'll probably buy Warrior....what about Tech Tool Pro 4? Ever used that?

I keep a system of over 15 machines running 24/7 without the need of installing ANY kind of maintenance software.

That doesn't mean that I don't use maintenance software, that just means that I don't install maintenance software.

Even back in the day of Norton Utilities under OS 9, I found that installing the software was useless. Few utilities could make repairs to the drive while booted from the drive under OS 7/8/9, and under OS X, it's impossible... Don't install anything, and simply boot from the DiskWarrior CD when you need to check/repair the disk.

I still have no clue as to why these utilities insist on trying to get you to install the software on the boot drive. It's useless. Even with external drives, it's safer to boot from the CD to check the disks and make repairs.

Hi,

I'm a field engineer in the UK, for a longtime now myself and my collegues have been using Disk Warrior.

Due to the fact that Disk Warrior repairs more drive problems and causes less problems then Nortons.

I would highly recommend using Disk warrior over Nortons.

DiskWarrior is very good.
TechTool Pro is very good.

The built in maintenance routines in OS X are very good.

If you can't fix a problem with any of these, you'll probably be replacing a drive.

I was working on my thesis about 3 months ago when I had a really bad crash. My hard drive was so badly damaged that it was unrecognizable by the system that it could not boot from it. I tried "repairing" the drive with Apple's Disk Utility, which said that there were errors that could not be repaired. I freaked out a little since my thesis was on this hard drive. I drove 80 miles to the nearest Apple Store and purchased Disk Warrior. It fixed my hard drive completely in about 30 seconds and I have not had any problems with that hard drive since that time. I highly recommend DW for serious hard drive repairs.
