Font Book acting funny.

I have several font sets in Font Book and I've added fonts to them, but it says there aren't any fonts in them. When I try to add a font to them, it just never shows up. Also, I can't delete one of the sets. And, I can't rename one of the sets.

This is very strange. What's going wrong?

Now I open it up, and all of my sets are gone!

Something very funny is going on...

Try deleting Font Book's preferences. You'll find it in ~/Library/Preferences and it will probably be named com.apple.fontbook.plist or something similar (I'm not on a Mac ATM so I can't verify). Move the file somewhere else, like the Desktop, and see if this fixes it. If so, delete the file.

Well, all of my sets are still gone so I can't realy see if I can rename the one that wouldn't be renamed, etc. I'll try it again and let you know how it works.

How's life on Fake St., anyway?

Ok, I don't know if trashing the prefs fixed things because I had to start all over again, but one way or another, things are fixed.

I found that font book won't let you have slashes in the set names. This may be a bug because it never says anything, it just doesn't rename the set.

Thanks

If you use fonts enough, Suitcase X11 is a great investment.

You might check and see if the fonts you want to use are corrupted, or if they are system fonts. Try running a Repair Permissions and restart and only use the program that needs the Font Book fonts, and nothing else.

Let us know if any of this (or other advice) works out.

I got Suitcase for Christmas, and proptly sent it back. I wrote a little review of it, and after an hour of use I had about three lines of "pro's" and two pages of "con's". I really don't see what people see in that program.

I admit it's not without its faults, but what happened for you to make you send it back? Sounds pretty serious…
