| Got my PowerBook 6 days ago and noticed that almost 12 GB of my HD was already used! What takes up all this space on the HD? The Apps aren't that huge and I havent transferred any movies onto it. |

| I wouldn't be surprised if there's just a TON of preinstalled software. I got my iBook last fall, and it came pretty well loaded - OS X, iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, Garage Band, World Book, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, a few other games... It doesn't seem too unreasonable that the disk would be that full right out of the box. If all the software is available on your system restore CDs/DVDs, you can always remove some of it.

| Go do a Get Info on your Applications folder etc, as mentioned by davidbrit, its most likely that it has a plethora of preinstalled goodies. If its a new one, you probably have this stuff installed, which could account for the amount of HD used: iLife 05 (requires 4.3 gig if you install everything!) QuickBooks Art Directors Toolkit OmniGraffle OmniOutliner GraphicConverter Zinio Reader FileMaker Pro trial MS Office Test drive (this takes up close to 500 meg by itself) Id be willing to bet that (some if not all of) these items use up a large portion of the missing HD space.

| download from versiontracker or macupdate WhatSize. it's a small shareware or freeware application that gives you a hierarchial listing of your biggest folders so you can pinpoint exactly what is eating your GBs. i would guess garageband. it is like 4 gb with all the loops (i think they are placed in your library folder (the one that is for all users).
