| OS X Upgrade I recently bought my first Apple computer. It is the 1.8 17" iMac. It is without a doubt the best computer I have ever used. I have a question however. I just purchased this machine two weeks ago. Does Apple offer a grace period for new buyers for their OS X upgrades and if so within what time frame? I am just curious. Thanks for any answers. |

| Any software updates for your new iMac are available for free using your internet connection, as it has OS X 10.3.x, the current OS X version. There are no paid upgrades yet (until OS X 10.4 (Tiger) is released). What normally happens - Apple announces a new purchased upgrade, and systems purchased AFTER that date would normally get free updates. Apple SOMETIMES provides reduced price or other options for systems purchased before that date. There would be a cutoff date, and Apple would usually make some kind of announcement about that. Does this help answer your question?

| Thanks for the reply Delta. Yes that does answer my question. Either way I will upgrade to Tiger. Wish I had switched years ago. Thanks again. |

| DeltaMac you seem to be well informed on the workings with respect to upgrades. Can you provide some information about the "software coupons" that were delivered with the mac I bought.

| [quote=eschance] Either way I will upgrade to Tiger. Glad you are enjoying your Mac. I quoted that comments because so many people say that after switching. Just to feed my curiosity, why didn't you switch years ago? The software coupons are a bit of a mystery. If Apple offers you some incentive for Tiger, I believe you will use the coupons then. ![]() |

| They are used to get an upgrade from 9.0 or 9.1 to 9.2.2 amongst other things.

| So far, I don't think there's been any reason to use the coupons. Supposedly you needed one going from 10.0 to 10.1 for free but a lot of places weren't requiring them.

| I have no opinion about the software coupons that come with a new Mac. I have never used them, and I have never talked to anyone who has used them. They are too thin to be any other useful purpose, although they could be used to line a trash can on a temporary basis. Information for how they can be used is printed on the coupons. You can call Apple Customer Support, or check at the Apple web site for possible other information.
