Image Capture.app : Whats teh deal?

So what is the deal with teh image capture app that comes with osx, i have a Kodak DCS 315 thats firewire, and i plug it in and the app doesnt recoginize it or anything. I personally think i should be able to just mount the camera as a HDD and copy off what i want, but even jsut some software would be nice

What are the prerequisits for a camera to work in ImgCapt? do i need liek drivers for every specific camera that it can recognize?
