| Remote Desktop and Monitor Dummy Load !?! I have an old G4 350 that I'm trying to "retire" into doing automated tasks (applescripts and backup etc) over the network and using Apple Remote Desktop. It's all set up to use with ARD, but I don't want to actually have a monitor attached to it - I want to use ARD with it only. Now here's the problem ... if I power down, disconnect the monitor, power up and try to connect with ARD ... the display I get back from ARD is black with weird lines through. However, and here's the funny thing(!) - if I connect the monitor and don't switch it on ARD manages fine. So ... to get the computer to work with ARD but without a monitor attached ... I suppose I need some sort of "dummy load" (does such a thing exist?!) ... or is there a better way! Many thanks for reading this far! Last edited by Zimbop; January 15th, 2005 at 10:29 AM.  |

| On the old Mac's that didn't have VGA's we used to trick them into thinking there was a monitor attached by connecting one of the Apple->VGA adapters... The other trick is to a) connect the monitor b) turn the machine on and then disconnect the monitor while the computer it on. The problem with this is that you need to repeat the proceedure each time to reboot. (And maybe even each time it wakes from sleep.) Maybe you can use one of these tricks.
