QT movie in standalone player problems

I have a wmv file linked from a webpage with the following code:
<a href="track3.wmv"> but however I try I cannot get the file to open in the quicktime player without the page it is linked from changing to a blank white page. Is there anyway to open the file in the player without the webpage changing or at lease forwarding to another page.

Using Safari 3, Dreamweaver CS3. Flip4Mac plugin for WMV.
