| iChat - AIM Help Needed I've been using my new Mac laptop for a few days now and have been trying to install AIM. After giving up on that (keeps trying to open file in excel or another ap) I set up my aim info in iChat. All the info is correct but all it does is sign in and out almost instantly. So after about an hour of frustration I downloaded adium, put in my aim info and it's doing the same thing, signing in then instantly disconnecting. All my other messenger programs are working fine in iChat and adium and I've searched and just can't figure out the problem. Any info would be appreciated. |

| Hm. Are you sure you're not logged into the account at the same time from another computer? Although: I haven't seen that doing what you describe... What do you mean by "all your other messenger programs are working fine in iChat"? Do you mean another account?

| Go to the AIM web site and see if the web-based AIM tool works... ...if not you might have some issue with that AIM ID in which case you should experiment by creating a new one.

| Everything seems to be working on the aim site. I registered a new username and put in the new info in iChat and Adium and am still having the same problems. |

| Adium is a multi-messenger that allows a person to log into AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, and other accounts simulatanously. iChat will only allow a person to log into AIM, Jabber, and .Mac. Hope this clarifies things. If you are having problems signing in open your iChat preferences. Select Accounts and your user name should show up with a check mark next to it. Enable "use this account" and disable "when iChat opens, automatically log in". Finally, look at the bottom at Account Type and select "AOL Instant Messenger" from the pull down menu. Now log in to your account by entering your screen name followed by your password. Take note, you do not need to enter @aol.com or @aim.com. If you cannot log in than you are logged in under your aol.com account somewhere else. Quit the Adium application and any browser windows with AOL. If that doesn't work: It is a connection problem on your side or on their side. Make sure you do not have firewall settings turned on in System Preferences because some instant messengers will not work with it on. If it still doesn't work: Check http://discussions.apple.com/categor...categoryID=139 and here http://ezjimfortestonly.blogspot.com...ing-again.html and here http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com
