Help! Should I sell my Windows notebook?

after yeaaarsss of drooling at apple stores and fighting the urge to run off with other people's iBook.. I finally purchased a 12" iBook G4 !! if you asked why not get the macbook, well this purchase has dried up my savings and since i only need it for web/internet purposes, photoshop, dreamweaver and office, i figured i dont need having Intel in my mac.

now my friend wants to buy my Windows notebook.
i fear parting with it, coz i'm scared that if smth happens 2 my mac, i have nothing 2 fall back on.

i felt safe when i installed VPC + windows xp pro on my mac.. but after reading a few threads here saying VPC should be avoided.. i'm starting to get confused again..

help me!

I'm not sure what you mean by people telling you to stay off VPC. Either way: It won't solve your problem. If _ever_ your iBook breaks down, you'll either have another computer or you won't. So what's the question again? Should or shouldn't you sell your Windows notebook? It depends on how much money that gives you. I'd sell the notebook, probably (unless I'd have a specific task for it and I'd miss it if it were gone) and make sure that

a) I've got an external FireWire harddrive bigger than the iBook's internal drive, so that I always have a backup of my internal harddrive.

b) I've got enough money soon enough in order to buy a replacement notebook should the iBook ever break in a way that Apple Care wouldn't cover it.

Thx for the reply My main concern is that i cant run my games, files etc on mac. that's why i thought i need a windows laptop, jz in case. if i sell it, i'll gain back half of the mac price.

is mac as unstable as windows? i've had my laptop for 3 yrs and it has caused me extreme fear of losing my data regularly when it starts acting up. i do own an external usb hard drive now and backed everything up, jz in case.
so the question really is, do i need a backup windows laptop or will my mac covers everything?

i dont exactly mean staying off vpc, i've just came across some threads that recommend installing two OS that can run separately instead of using vpc.
I think there was a mention of bootcamp somewhere.

so.. is it ok to use vpc? or is there another option for using windows on mac?

If I had been you, I would have sold my Windows laptop to begin with and gotten an Intel Mac to run both Windows and OS X on at the same time. You could still technically sell both your iBook+PC and get enough money to buy a MacBook, or maybe MacBook Pro; dunno how much everything cost you.

VPC is a fine application for things like Office programs, internet, etc. However, games are going to be fairly lousy on it if you play anything more intensive than Solitare.

The Mac has a very, very low chance of crashing on you/getting corrupted after a couple months, and having an external backup will make you practically invulnerable to anything short of dropping it or having a logic board go bad.

Just as a note, PowerPC Macs such as your iBook do NOT run BootCamp or XP natively. Only newer Intel Macs can do that.

thx.. now i know i should've sold my windows notebook and get a macbook. i dont know whether i can sell my mac and my notebook.. there are not many mac users here.
i see now how slow virtual pc can be. i'm trying to access a ie only website on it and it's taking forever to just click the browser open.
will getting a 1GB RAM help this?

Sounds like you are just unsure of the Mac. If you have a specific task(s) or need the money then sell it. If you feel a sense of security having the notebook around, then I would keep it.
