Handling streaming protocols with Firefox

How does one set Firefox to handle protocols like RTSP or MMS with the appropriate application on a Macintosh? With Windows, one just adds a user preference with the path to the application, but with Mac OS, pathnames in the prefs.js file are encoded and not human readable.
