Do you think that the 10.4.2 update will resolve the permissions issues with Tiger server and Quark 4.1?
Right now it's an absolute nightmare trying to produce a newspaper with Quark 4.1 and Baseview for classified ads. Not working...

Really, really unlikely that new system updates will help your old version of Quark work better. Quark 4 was released when OS 8 was still the primary MacOS software. Quark was long enough even releasing software that was OS X useful.
Not to beat a horse to death, but Quark has software that will work better for you with OS X. I have customers with a couple of small papers here, and the attitude is stuck in an inertial loop.
My opinion - FWIW - time to move on. A 'steep learning curve' is a lot better than an 'absolute nightmare' - and I have some understanding of deadlines, and production, and customer expectations. I wish you luck as you convince the 'powers' that you need to upgrade now.
If I missed the mark, then forgive me for being a little heavy-handed. I've been around enough small papers that I can speak this way.

Thanks Dale,
They ARE upgrading, hence the Tiger upgrade from Panther Server. Plus they are going to all Adobe CS products, all new G5 towers, a passel of minis,
and more. All the legacy software worked perfectly with Panther Server. But not so with Tiger due to Quark's caching scheme. I ask about this since some of the early reports on 10.4.2 talk about "squashing all the bugs" and over 70 fixes, some of the major. Plus I know Apple is aware of this. It's on their own site and MacFixit has over 400 posts on it. In the meantime we are doing a downgrade (will Apple's permission since we have the old software running on the old server that was moved elsewhere)...to 10.3.9. That should resolve the "Bad File Format" and "Access Denied" problems. It's hard to work with. But Baseview needs to go in any event. It needs to be replaced with Smart Publisher soon. Especially since Baseview does not work with InDesign and Smart Publisher does.
