Randomlly my computer pops up with a message. "The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server n ame or IP address and try agin." This is extremely annoying because if I am working on something and click off of it. I often end up having to force quit that application just to get to the window and click OK. This little message is really slowing me down. Any idea on how to stop this from happening.
Thanks in advance.

Brad,
I'm Tom and I will be assisting you.
It is clear that something, somewhere is trying to connect to a server but can't. The question is what!?
You've ruled out any widgets trying to connect - good - one down, ? to go!
Do you have any idea of any software you might be running that would try to connect to the internet/network? have a look in the dock for applications that may be running without you realising (they'll have a black triangle underneath the icon if they are running). When you get to the window to click "OK" what is the name of the application (the name should appear next to the apple menu).
Does this happen only when you are working in a particular application? If so what is this application?
Have a think and get back to me.
regards
Tom

Hi Tom,
Thanks for your response, well I don't know what app could be trying to connect. I work in Graphic Design, so I am continually running, the adobe creative suite 2. Usually photoshop, illustrator, and indesign are all open. As well as Itunes, Extensis Suitcase, and mac mail.
Im not sure, does any of the above ring any bells for you?
Thanks again..

Brad,
I take it you are running OS X?
As I'm sure you are aware, from the Apps you mention there is really only Mac mail that is internet based. If your remote mail server goes down then Mac Mail will grumble with a message similar to the one you mention. It will result in mail switching to "offline" mode and will not check mail till you switch it back to online. This would not cause any apps to freeze though and I'm sure you would know that it was Mail interrupting your work as the Mail icon in the dock would bounce and you'd have to switch to the Mail app to respond to the message.
One thing that concerns me is the fact that it is interrupting your work. You say you have to force-quit - can you clarify this situation for me. Which application do you have to force quit? Why do you have to force quit - does it freeze?
Is you computer on an office network?
Does the error message happen when you are working in a particular application?
The next time you get this message click on the message - but not on the "OK" button. Hopefully this will make whatever is generating the message be the main app, and you should be able to tell what application is now running from the change of menus at the top of the screen.
I know Adobe software can connect to the internet to send registration details, But this should only happen once. Is all your software properly legit and registered etc? (I personally don't care if it is or not! I'm just trying to work out what is going on here!)
One thing you can check...
open your system preferences (from the dock or apple menu)
Click on "accounts" and select your account (make sure its your account if there is more than one on your computer!)
now click on "login Items" tab
There should be a list of items that launch on start-up of your computer. Can you tell me what is listed - its the ones with the check-marks that are important.
And one more thing. Are you running any Virus checking software? (Don't worry - it wont be a virus causing the problem)
Sorry this is all questions. bear with me!
have a think and get back to me
regards
Tom
