I have OSX 10.3.9 on a G4 laptop. I have recently started getting -10810 eroor code on trying to launch an application. If I close an existing application then I can start the one which gave the -10810. Sometimes I am reduced to a single running application.
I have found nothing to tell me what this code means.
Can anyone help please?
Thanks in anticipation
Cliff

Google is your friend. The first suggestion is copied and pasted with minor mods from this forum from July 5, 2005:
Boot from your OS X Installer. Be sure to use the installer for the version of OS X you have installed. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (or Utilities menu if using Tiger.) After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
Download the 10.3.9 Combo Updater and reinstall 10.3.9 using the updater.
Alternatively,
1. Since you're using 10.3, you need to get rid of the following:
/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices.6B.csstore
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
(where '~' means your Home directory, i.e. '/Users/yourname')
2. If you have Virex or other virus software installed, try uninstalling it. Be sure to use uninstallers that come with the software because simply deleting the application does not fully uninstall most virus software.
Be sure to shut down for a couple of minutes, then do a restart after the above. Basically, this error means you've reached the limit of running processes.
HTH and please let us know what happens. Thanks.

Thank you very much unknown friend. Your advise seems to have solved the problem. The repair action found nothing to repair but there were many permissions in error. I have not done "Download the 10.3.9 Combo Updater and reinstall 10.3.9 using the updater." Hopefully that is not necessary.
As an afterthought - this problem began after I installed the latest version of Skype and a Stuffit expander update it demanded. I dragged skype to the trash before following your instructions but that did not afffect the problem. Many thanks again, Cliff
