1) My mom just purchased a 300Mhz Ibook Clamshell. The Ibook is running Mac OS 10.0 (The first OSX) . Which isn't a very good operating system.
Well we just installed a airport card and we cant figure out where on the computer we're suppose to go to turn the airport card on.
Where do you go to turn it on? I cant find any programs in the Utilities folder.
2) I decided I wanted to do a software restore and go back to 8.6 and then install 9.2. Well I put the Software Restore cd in held C until it said Welcome to Macintosh then it shut down unexpectedly. I tried several times and it kept shutting off. I also tried the Software Install Cd and it does the same thing.
What is going on here?
Thanks for answering my two questions.

If the system seemed to work OK before, I would first suspect your Airport card. Take it out, and try a power on. If the system is then working OK, the Airport card may be bad.
If the software is in place, and you are booted to OS 8 or 9, you can turn your Airport card on and off through the desktop strip (the small strip that has a lot of other icons available, probably at the bottom of the screen.) One of the icons will be for the Airport. You can also open the Airport software through the Apple menu.
If you have enough memory (the older iBooks CAN be upgraded to more than 512MB, if you can find memory that will work in it), you can upgrade to Panther OS X 10.3
If you still have problems with shutdown, I think the iBook will need some repairs, or at least a new battery (don't BUY a used battery for one of the old iBooks)

The operating system that I currently have on the ibook which is Mac OS X 10.0 works fine with or without the airport card installed we just cant figure out how to turn the airport card on using Mac os X 10.0.
Because we couldnt figure out how to turn it on using Mac Os X we decided to use the software restore cd but when it began loading up into OS 8.6 it shut off. I then tried removing the airport card but it still shut down.
And why would this be the batteries problem? Thanks

I mentioned batteries, because I see a lot of Clamshell ibooks with dead batteries. Many people get by with a dead battery, but the power manager in the ibook can occasionally have problems when starting with a dead battery installed.
It's been so long since I setup any Mac with 10.0 I would immediately update a 10.0 system to 10.1, as many parts of the system were not well finished in that first version.
There should be either an Airport utility, or try the Internet Connect app (I think it was still called that.)
