Knowledge Level: Intermediate

Problem: Software
Computer Type: Apple
Model: 20th Anniversary
RAM: 64meg
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: Not Listed

Description:
I recently performed a clean install of OS 8.5 without any problems. However, last night I tried to use the Automated Tasks function in the Apple menu. When I open the Apple menu and drag the cursor down to Automated Tasks, the watch appears and then suddenly I get a warning that the finder has unexpectedly quit and my computer locks up. I've tried zapping PRAM, rebuilding the desktop, trashing the finder and Apple menu items prefs, all to no avail. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi Jerry, and welcome to NoWonder Mac support!

The tasks in that folder are AppleScripts. There has been a couple of changes in how AppleScript works since OS 8.1 and my impression is that some of the scripts in that folder isn't compatible with OS 8.5 - which is strange if they shipped with it! Try to use the scripts from their actual folder directly and see if they work all right. Also try removing the shortcut to the AutomatedScripts folder from the AppleMenu. Then move the AutomatedScripts to a new folder by hand and make a new whortcut to that folder in the AppleMenu - only to find out if there was anything strange with that folder itself.

Let me know how this works.
