Hi,
I have been a PC user all my life, but having heard a lot of good things about the Powerbook, Want to switch to Mac. I have a couple of questions before I take the final Plunge :
1) Can I chat with my friends who are WIndows users through Yahoo,Google Talk etc ?
2) Which Webcams are compatible with Mac, Basically I want to Video-Chat with a friend on a PC ( Using Yahoo, Say) , So Which Webcameras can I use ? I read reviews which state that We cannot use ISight to send videos to PC Users. Is this True ?
Thanks
Hi,
Switching to Mac is definitely a wise choice.
The Powerbook is a great machine, and the display is very crisp.
1.) You certainly can chat with your friends. You can interface through all of them. Just like on Windows, there are programs that will let you access all of the chat clients. On the Mac, it comes with iChatAV. This supports AIM and Jabber accounts. Jabber is the format that Google Talk works with.
There are other chat programs that will do more, such as ADIUM X

I use this as well, to chat with my MSN friends and ICQ.
2.) For the video chat, I am not 100% sure it works with Google Talk.
If you want a list of USB cameras, there aren't a bunch of out of the box supported, but with a 3rd party driver, you can use many.

I do recommend the iSight though, the video quality is very good, especially with iChatAV.
These compatibility problems are a couple of nagging ones with the Mac, but overall, when i got my first Mac, it took me about 10 days before I went to the Mac full time. There was an adjustment period for finding the Applications that corresponded to the ones I was using on the PC. Now I never use the Windows machine.
Good luck, and let us know if you have any more mac questions!
