This came up on screen, briefly, on safari a few days ago. As it didn't seem to be affecting anything and certainly wasn't hijacking my home page, i thought nothing more of it.
Today, logged on and my screensaver kicks in whether or not i am using keyboard or mouse, i try and log into igoogle and get diverted to a ring tone site...??....so i managed to find this forum where a lady had about:blank on her history and you recommended clearing her cache, so i copied the idea.
Cleared my cache and it wasn't cleared...so looked at reset safari..."ok" i thought "i might lose presets and cookies etc but aint gonna harm it" so i went for it. (as you may be able to tell I am not v.mac(or pc!!!!)literate)
Now whenever i get onto igoogle safari crashes,(ok for google.co.uk) still being redirected if i type igoogle.co.uk but at least my history is clear and i can't see about:blank on it, what should i do? if anything...
I am running 10.3.9
Thanks
Kate

Hello Kate and thanks for using macosx.com

I will try to advise and assist you as best I can...

OK what the hell is igoogle? I tried igoogle.com and got some weird version of the google homepage I NEVER use (though it appeared to be a valid Google page with my login options and all so it is probably kosher) and igoogle.co.uk belongs to a RINGTONE site... (i.e. it is what I call a "side squatter" - they have bought an "alike" name and hope for hits on the mistyped addresses...)

If you want to be sure you are in the clean get DNSChangerCleaner FREE from here http://www.dnschanger.com/ and run it... the DNS changer is the ONLY malware currently known in the wild for Max OSX... and if you have it you need to either a) stop downloading from dodgy pr0n sites b) stop anyone using your Mac doing a) or c) get ClamXav here for free and use the Download Folder Sentry... (you have to update the defs manually but, you know... it is free and with only the one real trojan for Mac is that so strenuous?)

Flippancy aside... if you are concerned something is stuffed up get OnyX here http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html and run all the cleanups it offers

(alternatives such as Yasu, Xupport, Cocktail, MacHelpMate etc are equally as capable... hell run em all if you are paranoid )

Hope that is a start to helping

Come back and we will discuss it in more depth if need be
