I have a four year old I-mac Power PC G4 with a 1 mghz processor, 256 MB RSDRAM, 61 GB hard disk space available, fire wire and an OS X version 10.3.9 (Panther)

I bought an I-phone in August 2007 and I cannot synchronize it with my Mac for, from what I understand form my research, I need a an OS X Tiger version 10.4.10

Can you confirm that if I invest in an OS X Tiger everything is going to work properly (I -phone synch and the rest)? The investment ($129) is heavy just to be able synchronize on a great but old computer.

I saw that some were available on e-bay. But if I buy there and it is a version that is older than 10.4.10, will I be able to update it?

Also about buying such OS X systems on E-bay or Amazon: is that safe? Legal? Any comments/advice would be welcome.

Thanks

Well I also looked online and The Official Apple site said 10.4.10 is needed while another site I looked, said 10.4.8 would also work. I suggest going with what Apple says, at 10.4.10.

Other specs for the iPhone require a USB 2.0 port, iTunes 7.3 or later, unless your in Europe, 7.5 or later is required

More research on the Apple site, and I found you can upgrade to OS X 10.4 with your specs on the machine your running.

As what Apple says, OS X 10.4 will work. The specs you have will work on the iPhone. This is only what I see and what I observe, but my Opinion is yes, it is worth the upgrade.

Now, for purchasing 10.4. I would buy it directly from Apple. So there is no confusion over updates, AppleCare, etc. So if you ever have to call the machine into support, you can prove to them that you are running a genuine install disk, as you would be buying it directly from Apple.
