You need to check that ports 6346 and 6881 are permitted
So it kind of depends where you are using it... If you are in your office, then typically PTP software ports (Acquisition, Limewire, Kazaa, Napster etc), are blocked
If you are on a DSL connection at home, you may need to open ports on your router firewall
Also, you could start with your own built in firewall...
• open SYSTEM PREFERENCES and select SHARING
• select FIREWALL tab

Hi, I have these ports open in the OSX Firewall. I am at home on a router, I have just checked the router info and it says . . . 3.3.9 Configuration - Virtual Server
The Virtual Server Configuration page allows the user to set the configuration of Virtual Server. The Conexant firmware includes the Free BSD version firewall. All UDP/TCP ports are protected from intrusion. If any specific local PCs need to be mapped to the UDP/TCP port on WAN side, please input the mappings here.
. . . I can't see any way of disabling the router firewall and am unclear how to go about putting mappings into the "Virtual Server Configuration" - the manual appears to offer no help! The VSC configuartion page has entries for "Public Port", "Private Port" & "Host IP Address" and currently says "Number of Virtual Servers 0" - any ideas welcome?
Regards, John.

Unless the configuration has been seriously tampered with, a home router's default setup is to let you get OUT to ANY thing on ANY port but to block anything coming IN unless you specifically permit it.
My guess is either put your machine's IP address in the DMZ of the router (the Access All Areas pass

) or set up a virtual server. For this you have to specify the protocol, TCP or UDP, for each port you want open and to what address.
At least, that's how I have to do it on my router.

Quite happy to have the system more open - but I'm quite naive in these things - what is DMZ - don't have a menu item, labelled as such? And what address should I put in there? The one alocate by DHCP? - John

Found DMZ and enabled it with the IP of my PC in the DMZ HOST IP box but no change to the problem - John.

Out of interest, are you able to use Limewire? This is a program very like Aquisition. Go to
www.limewire.com to get it.

No. Have tried Limewire - in the connections pane I get 9 connections which appear to connect but when the time column reaches about 0.05 it resets and starts again. Then I get the message "Your machine does not appear to have an active internet connection . . ." - John.
