acunett.com recently took over web-hosting duties from macosx.com. Due to the fact that macosx.com is such a pro-Mac site, I would have assumed that acunett.com would also support the Mac community. What I have found instead is that their account/billing website is not even friendly to Safari - the primary OS X web browser. I say this because most of their pages I encountered within the site required me to reload the page - sometimes several times - before I could enter text in any fields or make selections from any drop-down menus. It would also appear that the word "Macintosh" doesn't even appear in their support documentation.
Any comments - or suggestions on where to find good Mac-friendly webhosting, now that macosx.com is no longer offering that service?

Thank you,

Steve Aldrich

I'll say now that neither I, nor anyone else likely to respond to your question, has any association with acunett.com.

I am not a user of acunett.com therefore cannot look at the account/billing site to determine the problem. However, there are many web sites that have issues with Safari, and sadly in many cases it is Safari to blame - not the website.

Firstly, please check you are running the latest version of Safari (Now 2.0.2) as this includes a number of bug-fixes which may affect several website's appearance and function.

The fact that Macs are not mentioned in their support documentation is not surprising. In general the client operating system doesnt have a significant affect on a web hosting provider. (The word "Windows" doesnt appear anywhere either)

All computers be they Mac, Windows, Linux or whatever use a set of standard protocols to communicate with the web server for uploading files etc - FTP / SFTP / SCP / WebDAV etc so personally I would pick a hosting provider that suits your needs, even if their support desk isn't that great with Macs... most of the time, you wont need it.

Back to your intiial propblem - accessing their billing website, if upgrading Safari doesnt work, or you are already using the latest version, try using Firefox (http://www.getfirefox.com/) as this is more likely to be supported.

Also, log a ticket at http://support.acunett.com/ requesting Safari compatibility on their billing system, they'll probably be more than happy to try, particularly since they've recently had a large influx of mac users.
