What happens when you try to open Address Book? Do any other programs refuse to open or just Address Book?
There are a few things you can do.
1.
Go to Applications>Utilities and start up Disk Utility. When that opens it will take a few moments for it to gather information on your drives.
Click on the second icon in the side bar at the left.
Click on Repair Permissions. Repair Disk will be grayed out.
When done, quit Disk Utility and give Address Book a try.
2. Delete the Address Book preference file.
Go to Home>Library>Preferences.
Go to the view menu and select by list so everything is in alpha order.
Now scroll down to locate and trash the following file:
com.apple.AddressBook.plist
Empty the trash and open Address Book. The preference file will regenerate a new one, but all your addresses will be there.
3. When you try to open Address Book, look at the top left of your screen. It could be that it is open, but no window is appearing. Go to the File menu and select New Card. This will generate a window and you should see a list of groups in the side bar at the left. Click on All and you will get a list of all your address book entries.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

The next step is to check the Font Book. Address Book uses the Helvetica font included with Mac OS X. Other kinds of "Helvetica" fonts might be installed, but Address Book requires the Apple font.
Use Font Book (in Applications) to enable Helvetica in the All Fonts font collection.
Let me know if this corrects the issue.

GREETINGS CHERYL...
ONLY the Address Book was refusing to open.
1. Did not seem to work.
2. Did, in fact, allow me to open the Address Book again. However...if I click on any of the email addresses the App goes into a reading loop and must be force quit.
3. Was not the problem, I only had the finder menu, not the Address Book menu.
It would seem I need additional input since I have gotten half way to my solution. In Address Book, the email addy pane cannot be touched but can be seen when the windows are expanded. No information is displayed in the third pane because the program will not pass the logic loop the program seems to go into when any of the addys are clicked.
I can SCROLL the long list of email addresses, but as soon as I touch ANY part of either the first menu pane or the second email address list pane, the app processing indicator appears and will not leave. I let it spin for several hours just in case the app had to look at every single email addy before releasing.
I changed to single pane view (as a test) and was able to do so. The only item viewable was the SEARCH slot. As soon as I clicked in that window, the app again started working on seemingly nothing.
That's as much of the related problem I can describe. What is our next step?
Please note that I have ordered TIGER and plan on installing it soon. That may take care of the problem (and begin a million others - smile). But I really won't be upgrading for several weeks and need a functional address book now. Thanks.
