Knowledge Level: Intermediate

Problem: Software
Computer Type:
Model: PowerMac 6200
RAM: 32meg
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: MacOS 8.1

Description:
I have downloaded the Adobe Acrobat that was on the Mac OS8 disc. When I try to open it it says "They Symbol font must be installed. Please re-install". I have re-installed and got the same message. I also tried installing it from the MacHome disc that comes with my magazine. I get the same message with that one too. I looked in the font file in my systems folder and there IS a symbol font in there.

Can you help, please? I really appreciate you help.

Thanks so much.

Hi Marianne, welcome to Nowonder, I'm robertw.

Issue
When you start Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0x or Acrobat Exchange 3.0x, it returns the error, "The Symbol font must be installed. Please re-install. Acrobat Reader [or Acrobat Exchange] will now Quit."

Details
The font Symbol is installed in the System Folder:Fonts folder.

The Apple GXGraphics extension is installed and active.

Solutions
Do one or more of the following:
A. Make sure there are 128 or fewer font suitcases in the System Folder:Fonts folder, and then restart the computer. (Don't remove the fonts Adobe Sans MM, Adobe Serif MM, Courier, Helvetica, Times, Symbol, and Zapf Dingbats from the Fonts folder, since Acrobat requires them.)

B. Disable the Apple GXGraphics extension, restart the computer, and then reinstall Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Exchange.

Additional Information
The System Folder:Fonts folder can contain a maximum of 128 font suitcases. If there are more than 128 font suitcases in the Fonts folder, Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Exchange may be unable to locate the font Symbol, which they require.

The Apple GXGraphics extension enables you to run QuickDraw 3D in System 7.5x and earlier. However, this extension is not compatible with Acrobat Reader 3.0x and Acrobat Exchange 3.0x.
