We moved our files from Mac Server to MS-Windows Server 2000 and our mac users can access (smb) the files and use it by Indesign, Illustrator or Photoshop, but itīs very slow. Hardware itīs ok, PCs users donīt have problema, just Mac users (MAC OS X).
Someone can help me.
Thanks

From my experience it's best to copy work files to the local machine, work on them, and then save them back to the server; but it depends a lot on your workflow.

Server 2000 is pretty old; can you upgrade to 2003? And can you describe in more detail your studio set up and how all macs connect to the network and server?

Thanks Natobasso.
It the first time I have to work with Mac clients. This network has about 50 PCs and 10 Macs (MAC OS X). I tried Windows 2003 R2 (domain server) as file server (with SFM), but mac users canīt access their files, so I installed Windows 2000 (with SFM) over VMWare (the same computer with Windows 2003 R2). After that, mac users can access their files, but sometimes works fast and sometimes very slow, almost the time slow. Mac users work with Indesing and Photoshop. Mac users access windows server by smb.
Follow your advise, today I put another computer with Windows 2003 R2 to work as file server and begin new test. Letīs see what will happen.
Thanks again.

Are your macs connected to the pc network via ethernet cables and routers? 10baseT or faster?

Yes, they are connected via FastEthernet. I do not think I have problem with infra, because I have an old Mac Server in the same network and I dont have performance problem. Iīm changing the Mac Server.
Yestarday, one mac user began to work in the new File Server Windows 2003 R2 and until now itīs ok (so far so good). Iīll wait a little to connect all mac users (now they are connected on Mac Server).
Thanks.
