I don't seem to be able to re-install illustrator into my G4. When I double click the 'Install Illustrator' it opens SIMPLE TEXT and goes no further. I am currently using OS 10.4.3 and have previously been able to use illustrator.

For whatever reason the file type of the Illustrator installer isn't being recognised. Try to drag and drop the 'Install Illustrator' onto the Installer app in /Applications/Utilities.

Let me know how it goes.

Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to drag and drop the 'install illustrator' as you suggested. A colleague has suggested installing 'Vise' which has had no effect on this problem either. When I double click the installer icon it now opens 'Script Editor'....

Hi Joanne

Do you have OS9 still on your machine and will it install under that? Sorry I can't help further so I'm sending this back to the open pool.

Good luck finding someone with more knowlege than me on this.

You need to install classic apps directly in classic, and I assume Illus 10 has a classic installer; OS X wouldn't be able to recognize that software.

Just reboot in OS 9 and install as normal.

Thanks for your reply. I don't seem to have classic any more on my computer, is there a way I can re-install OS9 without losing all my data?
I also contacted Adobe help line who said that Illustrator 10 won't work on OS 10.4.3????

Unfortunately, the higher up you go in OS X the less classic support there's going to be. Here's more on Tiger and Classic on apple's website:
http://www.apple.com/support/tiger/classic/

If you can get a hold of OS 9 you can install it without erasing anything else, just back up all your important data before you do, in case of issues. And also remember you have to update your 9.1 you install to 9.2.2 because that's the last update and it's optimized to allow OS 9 to be used as "classic" in OS X.

You might be better off, though, just upgrading your Illustrator to CS.

I re-installed OS9.2 and still had no success installing illustrator 10 or 9. However I have just upgraded to CS2 and all seems to be fine. Pity they don't tell you this in advance... thanks for your help again.

No worries, Andy.

You might try alerting Adobe, they may not know of the issue…I'll close this thread now.
