KNOWLEDGE LEVEL: I'm New!

PROBLEM: Software
COMPUTER TYPE:
MODEL:
RAM: 32meg
OS VERSION: Windows 98
SERVICE PACK:

DESCRIPTION:

I just bought softwindows 98 for my son. I installed it on my PowerMac 8100, where it is painfully slow, but I expect better
performance after my Sonnet g3 upgrade card arrives. In the meantime, I also installed it on my father's powerbook. On both platforms, the same problem arises with the game Age of Empires: It installs without problems, it starts, goes through all the initial screens, but abruptly quits (without crashing softwindows, though it sometimes does crash window 98) at the very last stage after displaying the actual play screen for a few seconds.
Is there something in windows 98 that isn't fully set up that leads to this? Is this a known problem? Thanks!

Hi Marttin,
Some games use the VooDoo emulation which in return runs off a VooDoo cards etc. also you may want to check in your system folder on the Mac side for these:
SoundSprocket, DrawSprocket, NetSprocket these are used alot with games and basically nothing else. Now as far as speed there is one thing that can be done to speed up the Windows end and thats to quit the finder in Mac to do this you have to write an AppleScript usually located on your hard drive in Apple Extras and write it to say something of the sort ....
Tell application Finder
quit
end tell
tell application Softwindows 98
activate
end tell

Now save this as SW98Boot and store it in the startup items (DISABLED FOLDER)
when you run the script the first time it may ask you to find Softwindows if so just locate it. Next open Extensions Manager and run minimal amount of system extensions (Make Sure that Extensions Manager is one of them) Save the set as BootSoftwindows and make sure all softwindows extensions are on! finally choose this set in the Extensions Manager and restart now try this at your own risk you are now programming your Mac using C language which is O.K. but if it scares you don't try it .
