When I boot up my mac (OSX 10.4) the airport icon does not show up in the grey bar at the top of the screen. I have taken it to tech support, the result is that my computer is not recognizing the hardware. Is there anything I could run that would help the computer find this hardware. Lastly would re-installing my OS be helpful. Thank you.

Open the Internet Connect application and choose AirPort from the toolbar. Is "Show AirPort status in menu bar" checked? You can confirm that your AirPort card is installed by opening System Profiler (Apple Menu>About This Mac>More Info…>Network>AirPort Card). Once you confirm and get the AirPort menu extra in the menu bar, you can use the menu to turn AirPort on if necessary and connect to your desired network. (You can also do this from Internet Connect.)
