OS Version: MacOS 8.1
Description:
Installed OS8.1 Everything fine. Installed Adobe that came with OS8.1 now sometimes, not always, when starting me computer I get a long solid beep (Like an alert). After it stops booting up, the beep stops. I have no problems other than that. Do you know what this might mean? Can you help me? THANKS!
I tried the First Aid Disk (Says everything appears to be o.k.)
Send Attachments? Yes
a long, solid beep? that is a new one, at least for me. the mac can play a
variety of sounds at start-up, including the dreaded car crash sound. but a long, solid beep ? i wish there was a better way to describe it or send me a file of the sound.
in reading your description of the symptom, have you tried removing adobe? how about when you start-up with extensions off? did you install more memory? a start-up alert (even this one) can sometimes mean a SIMM (or DIMM) is not seated properly.
finally, while apple's disk first aid is ok, try getting a copy of norton's utilities (version 3.5) and run the diagnostics. nortons can find, diagnose, and even fix many problems, including corrupted files.
let me know if i have been of any help.
thanks
