Please try this -
Insert the OS X Install DVD/CD and restart, holding down the "c" key to force use of the CD for startup.

Do Not start the installer at this point - instead, find Disk Utility in the top (Finder) menus and use that to repair your Hard Disk.

didn't work oh well I think it's just time to shoot myself..

..by the way what is the best utility to undelete deleted files of scavenge for data on a harddrive i tried file salvage but what it found was all named wrong and messed up so they were literally unusable/unrecognisable is there a better way to find files that are on a harddrive when they have been erased?

its just so frustrating knowing that they are actually on the hard drive but i just can't see them!!

I don't know of any utilities to undelete files - not my specialty.

I'll send you back to the rest of the Techs.

It's important, if you want further help, to give us explicit feedback on the results of troubleshooting steps. "Didn't work" indicates to me that you believe that one step will magically restore your files. Computers aren't magic.

Hi Davide

By any chance, have you renamed your User Folder?

Try using Cocktail to delete DS_Store files. You can download it here;

http://www.maintain.se/cocktail/index.html

Run all the cleaning and cron, repair functions.
