Knowledge Level: Intermediate

Problem: Combination
Computer Type: Apple
Model: 7500/upgraded to G3/320
RAM: 64meg
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: MacOS 8.1

Description:
I have just purchased a Power 7500 upgraded to a G3/320mgz. I have installed Free PPP to use my internet connection from school. However, my daughter uses aol for her online source. She can't log on to aol without first reconfiguring the FreePPP. This wasn't necessary on our old mac performa 631. Why can't we both use our connections without reconfiguring FreePPP?

Pam,
My name is Cheryl and I will be helping you. With MacOS8, all the internet connections are threaded to one source. If you use Internet Connect or FreePPP. What you can do is launch FreePPP and click on the little arrow facing the right. Set up a new account, just for your daughter and name it AOL. Now all she has to do is launch AOL, then FreePPP and use the arrow on the freePPP to select her account, and hit the connect button. It may be one more step, but it works.

A second choice would be to open FreePPP and in General tab uncheck the launch freeppp selection that says "allow applications to open connection." Then you must dial in with FreePPP first. That means you can't create an email and click on send and let freePPP dial in automatically. That way your daughter can sign on AOL without FreePPP.
Try both ways and let me know how you do.
Cheryl
