Hello Nick :-)
Ok, to start with you indicated you have a new Mac laptop, congrats!. It's either a PBookG4 or an iBookG4, but can you please tell me which operating system? To determine exactly which version you have, click the Apple icon top left in the Menu, then click "About This Mac". A window will open and give you the exact version: Exampe.. 10.4 or 10.3 etc...
And you are running the Mac OS X for AOL? click AOL in the Menu, click About AOL. The version number should be 10.3.6.
OK.. have you tried using the AirPort Setup Assistant in the Applications folder? Or the Network Utility also in the Applications folder?
I want you to try the following and then let me know if it helped.
Locate the following file: com.apple.networkConfig.plist
Follow this path: MacintoshHD>Library>Preferences. Locate that file, drag it to the Trash, then empty the Trash.
Now, locate two more files: com.apple.NetworkDiagnostics.plist and
com.apple.NetworkUtility.plist
Drag both of those to the Trash, then empty the Trash.
Also, I need you to locate your AOL Preferences file.
MacintoshHd>Users>Nick>Library>Preferences>America Online
Grab the AOL Preferences and AOL External Prefs files and drag those to the Trash, empty the Trash. Next time you launch AOL, new files will be generated.
Run Disk Utility. Disk Utility is in: MacintoshHD>Applications>Utilities folder. Locate Disk Utility, launch it. When the utility window appears, select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left side. Then click:
Repair Permissions. This takes about one minute to run. Ok.. Quit Disk Utility. Restart your Mac. Try to log onto AOL and see if you can get by Step 6.
Post back if you need further assitance!
