Not having changed a drive since OSX came about I wanted to ask about changing a hard drive in my G4 desktop (first model).

Will OSX disk utility / drivers work with third party drives or do I still need to buy Apple compatable drives?

Thanks

Hi Chris

Apple's Disk Utility will work with any drive.

Keep in mind that your G4 won't recognize any drive over 128GB. That is, if you bought a 200GB drive, the System will only recognize 128GB of the drive. This is a limitation of the on board IDE controller. Tou use larger drives, you would need to install an ATA/IDE 133 Controller card.
