i have a dual G4 and I have an apple airport base station working fine. but I purchased a small airport express so I could connect it to digital speaker and play itunes through it. i am so stuck. I know I need bridge mode but all of my settings goof up and the relay or remote bridge is never identified as a second networking device in the airport utility. i am using a bellsouth.net dsl modem for my high speed internet. my apple tech at comp usa told me to get the simple 6100 and that it would work... any ideas?? thanks, nita

Do you have your Airport Express connected to your router via Ethernet? If not to do bridging you need to do that. Then you can configure your Airport Express with the Airport utility. Be sure to select a different channel than your Airport Extreme.

On the Airport Express use these settings:

Airport: Create a Wireless Network (Home Router), set the name the same as your other Airport network name. Pick another channel than your other airport or channel any of your nearby neighbors use. Use the same security settings as your Airport Extreme.

Internet: connect using Ethernet, configure manually, assign an unused ethernet address, put in the mask and router address.

Network: don't check distribute IP addresses

Port mapping: leave blank

Access control: leave blank, radius not used

WDS: don't check "enable this base stations as a WDS"

Music: Check Enable AirTunes on this base station so you can get your music

That should work!

If you don't want to do bridging, but wireless distribution when you can't get an ethernet cable to your Airport Express, then you can configure it as a WDS station, but you lose half your bandwidth. Not a good idea! If you do go this route, then use an ethernet cable to connect to your Airport express to do the configuration. Set the network name and the channel and security and password all to the same settings as your Airport Extreme. Enable WDS. Then restart. You can then unplug the Airport Express and move it next to your stereo
