Problem: Software
Computer Type: Apple
Model: Performa 6400/200
RAM: 24meg
RAM Enhancer: Ram Doubler 2.x
OS Version: MacOS 8.5.1
Description:
I had no problem using my internal fax modem program (which came pre-installed when I bought the computer) until this afternoon.
Now when I try to use it, I get this message:
"A fax cannot be sent now because Apple Fax could not be found. To send a fax, put Apple Fax on your startup disk."
But Apple Fax IS on my startup disk, and I can see it has loaded along with the other extensions when I boot up.
Also, when I tried to open the Apple Fax program directly, I got an "Error -35" message.
Help!!!!

Richard,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news...Apple Fax is not compatible with Mac OS 8.5 and higher. Apple has placed a technical library article on this subject. You will not be able to fax anything but the cover page from the Apple Fax application.
The only workaround according to Apple is to set your printer port to your modem and fax each document one at a time using File/Print on your wordprocessor application (i.e. ClarisWorks). To at least get this functionality working download Telecom 3.1.3 from
www.apple.com, trash your old Telecom software and reinstall the Apple Telecom package.
Big time bummmer, I too am a Performa 6400/200 user and feel your pain. I removed the fax and phone but have kept the address section (I think it is the best address book out there) I recently went out and bought a new Robotics 56K modem. It retails for $139.00 but if you hurry you can get a $50.00 cash rebate! The rebate expires 1/31/99.
