Hey,

I'm having some troubles getting my Apple USB modem connected to dialup in Windows XP. It currently dials and connects fine, and I'm able to do almost everything.

However, when I launch World of Warcraft and attempt to login, my connection suddenly drops out and it brings up the window telling me I got disconnected etc.

The same thing happened when I was connected to my dialup connection and I opened up Battlefield 2. It seems it drops out when I open a game that needs an internet connection for something.

Are there any solutions for this?

By the way, I've already tried disabling all my wireless stuff and turning off the Windows firewall. No luck. Also, I use a 24" iMac.

Thanks.

Many computer games (such as Battlefield 2 or Star Wars: Battlefront 2) are not compatible for online play with dial-up modems. These first person shooter style games are the most sensitive to latency, making playing them impractical on dial-up .
Sorry, only hi-speed for many multi-player games.

Thanks for using MacOSX.com

World of Warcraft plays fine on dialup. I am aware other more fast-paced games don't, but that's still not my problem. My problem is it disconnects when I try to use it and I want to know how to fix it. Do you know how?

Thank you.

I don't understand your response. You say that WoW plays fine on dialup, yet your dialup disconnects when you try to use it ?? How can WoW play fine, when your dial-up disconnects when you use it? As I said, most modern games are not be practical on dial-up - the connection is too slow. If you have more than simple game-play, your modem would not likely handle the bandwidth needed.

What help do you get from the WoW support site?

A couple of weeks ago, before I bought my iMac, I had a PC. I played World of Warcraft on my PC, using a dialup connection, perfectly fine. My problem on my iMac running Windows XP isn't directly related to WoW. The problem is that when I open a game that needs an internet connection for a certain function, and I try to use that function, my dialup connection drops out.

The first time I noticed this was with WoW, when I try to logon. It tells me it was unable to login and my internet disconnects. To check if this was a problem only with WoW, I installed Battlefield 2 to test the connection. The same thing happened. I also tested Half-Life 2, the same thing happened.

I am aware that you can't play games like Battlefield 2 or Half-Life 2 on dialup, but World of Warcraft does work on dialup. However, it's not working on my iMac because of the problem outlined above.

Do you know how to fix this problem?

PS. The WoW support site told me to ask around at Mac forums, because it's a problem with my Mac not with WoW.

You could try changing your modem connect script to v.90 or even try v.34

Try a different modem - yours is in warranty and should be replaced because it disconnects intermittently.
