Hi,
I have a G4 dual 1,42ghz mac with an LCD Apple studio display, the kind with the sensor touch buttons on the front.
Every time I use my computer when I first turn it on the systems preferences box with for displays goes crazy, popping up and then disapearing, I am talking up to 50 times in a run. As you can imagine this make it very hard to do anything as no matter what yoiu are doing every time it pops up I get taken out of the program I am in and put into the system preferneces.
I called apple help Australia and they had no idea.
Really hope someone has encountered this and knows what to do.
Thanks heaps,
Dan

Hi Dan,
My name is Tom and I shall try to find a solution for you. Thanks for using macosx.com
The first thing I would try is to unplug the USB connection to your monitor. This connection is how the front monitor buttons "talk" to your mac. If the problem disappears then there must be something up with your monitor. The monitor will quite happily function without the USB connection and you should be able to control its settings via system prefs as usual. The power button and other controls will be disabled though.
It may also be worth checking the power cable of the monitor is connected properly (as well as your mac's power lead too). I've heard that earthing problems can cause the touch sensitive buttons to malfunction.
Let me know how you get on. if the problem remains after disconnecting the USB cable we'll investigate further.
Cheers for now
Tom

Hi Tom,
Thank you for replying, I have no usb cable coming out from my monitor, there is just the one. I have checked the power source and everything seems to be ok.
Thanks
Dan

Hi Dan,
Oops my mistake - Your monitor is the "all in one" ADC connector!
I am suspicious that there is a hardware fault with your monitor. One cause of this problem is bent/damaged pins on the connector or mac monitor socket. It may well be worth checking. Even the slightest damage can be catastrophic. What I suggest as one solution is to disable the front monitor buttons. This should work - especially if you have the 17" LCD monitor
press and hold down the command (apple) and shift keys
open system preferences and click on "displays" panel (still holding the command and shift keys)
release the keys
click on the options button and you should see "enable bezel button" checkbox. set this to disable the buttons.
thats it, done.
You will loose the use of the buttons on the monitor but hopefully it will allow you to work!
Let me know how you get on.
regards
Tom

Hi Tom,
Have disabled the buttons and am now just waiting to see if it happens again, hopefully I will never see the problem again.
Thanks heaps, it has been annoying me for soooo long and the mac support line had no idea.
Will keep you posted.

Hey Tom,
Just letting you know that I have been running my mac for about a week now with the buttons off and have not had a single problem.
Thanks so much,
