Appleworks 6 will open in my main user window, but not with the other user that is set up. I have OS X on an iMac G3. Up until about a week and a half ago, it would open either place. I cannot think of anything I have done that would have changed the computer, other than upgrading Quicken.( However, that is on Classic, and my Classic no longer opens for either user. But that's another problem!!)
I have done Disk Utility, but to no avail. My technical level is average. I have owned Macs of one type or another for 12 years, so I know the basics.

Angela,

My name is Cheryl and I will be assisting you. Have you used Disk Utility to repair permissions?
Go to the Utility folder (in Applications) and start Disk Utility. Click on the second icon at the far top left, then click on Repair Permissions. This should correct the Classic problem as well.

And double check the Accounts in System Preferences. Make sure the users have full access to the computer.

Yes, I used Disk Utility to repair permissions and repair the disk, and I checked the accounts - we both have full access. Any other ideas?

Thanks a lot!

Angela,

What version OS are you running?

Log into each user that is having the trouble and go to Home>Library>Preferences>AppleWorks

Trash any tmp files in that folder along with AppleWorks 6 Preferences, AppleWorks 6 Assistant Cache, and AppleWorks 6 Translators Cache.

Close the windows, empty the trash, and give AppleWorks a try.

There were no tmp files that I could see, but I did trash preferences, assistant cache and translators cache, but it still did not open. Thanks for the idea.

Anything else you can think of?

Thanks for all your ideas thus far.

Sincerely,
Angela

Angela,

I had assumed that you had updated AppleWorks to 6.2.9?

If not, go here for the download and install the update.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120213

If you did install the update, I think it is best to reinstall AppleWorks. You will need the AppleWorks CD or the Additional Software CD that came with the computer.

You first need to trash all the Appleworks files - not the documents.

In Applications - Trash the Appleworks folder
In the home folder>Library>Preferences trash the Appleworks folder
and the com.apple.appleworks.plist file for all users.

Now do a fresh install. Do not forget to do the update.

Yes, I did update. I went to the secondary user's window, and the Appleworks application program could not be found in the Applications folder, so I copied it from my main user window to his, and restarted it. THIS WORKED!
I am not sure why it wasn't there, but that explained the problem.

Thanks for all your time and effort and suggestions, though!

P.S. I also got my Classic working again.

Angela,

That is great news.

In the future, you should install your applications and programs in the Main Application folder not the user's Application folder. Then those programs will be available to all users.
